To swap slit plates all you need to do is: Remove the 2 screws on top of the small plate located directly above the slit. To swap: slide the slit plate up.

Your spectroscope is shipped with tape over the light entrance slit to avoid dust particles from entering the inside the optical chamber. You can remove the tape, however the tape can act as light diffuser if the light source is too bright. You can also replace the tape with new opaque tape or use some parchment paper to make a new light diffuser. The instrument ships with a flat 2mm slit gap plate. Reducing the slit gap can increase the precision of the instrument but will reduce its light sensitivity which in some cases this maybe wanted. Use a material with very sharp edges if you chose to reduce the slit gap.

The slit plate has a long side and a short side. The short side should be facing up towards the small cover with the 2 screws. It does not matter which face is facing in or out. One side has an indent in case you decide to add some material to reduce the slit gap.

Removing the big top lid and breaking the warranty seal tabs will void your 90 day warranty.

Congratulations on your new instrument!
